Environmental Toxicologist Susan Shaw will be Speaking in Connecticut

2009 Women of Discovery Awardee Susan Shaw will be speaking at Mitchell College, 437 Pequot Ave., New London, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Weller Center.
Dr.Susan Shaw will be speaking about the results of her findings in her investigation of the Deepwater Explosion in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico. She has been investigating the impact of the chemical dispersants being used to sink the oil. She was one of 14 scientists with the U.S Department of Interior's Strategic Sciences Working Group researching the effects of the spill and recommending policy action.
Dr. Susan Shaw is globally recognized environmental toxicologist and the founder of the Marine Environmental Institute based in Maine. She was the first scientist to document the widespread contamination of marine mammals and fish in the northwest Atlantic by toxic flame retardant chemicals used in consumer products.
She has also been featured in Animal Planet’s Black Tide: Voices of the Gulf and Green Planet’s The Big Fix, a documentary honored at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
